BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A mid-morning incident had sent a number of employees of the Parks and Beaches Unit (P&BU) running for cover, as gunshots were fired in the general area in which they were working.
Reports reaching SKNVibes indicated that sometime before 10:00 this morning (Oct. 18), a number of shots were fired at an individual or individuals, who were at the time close to some containers sitting off the shoulder of the West Basseterre By-pass Road in the vicinity of the RLB International Airport.
The reports also indicated that during the incident, the P&BU’s employees abandoned their task and vacated the area. However, no one was injured and the intended target(s) as well as the gunman fled the scene.
On arrival at the scene, this media house observed a marked area on the ground from where a spent shell was retrieved and also a notch made by a bullet on one of the containers. However, no one was present to offer any information.
When contacted, the Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Vaughan Henderson, confirmed that shots were fired in that area, and he also noted that no one was at the scene on arrival of the police’s investigating team.
He told this media house that officers from the Crime Scene Department had processed the scene and “a number of evidential value was taken into custody for further analysis”.
Inspector Henderson also stated that investigations into this incident are ongoing.
