Kingston, Jamaica – Surprise package Windward Islands ruthlessly disposed of defending double champions Trinidad and Tobago and dumped them out of the WICB Regional 50 Over Tournament.

Windwards blew T&T for a paltry 133 then romped to 139 for 2 to register a thumping eight wicket win at Sabina Park on Heroes Day in Jamaica.

Chasing 134 to win Windward Islands were led by seasoned opener Devon Smith who made a composed unbeaten 51 from 88 balls with four boundaries.

Keddy Lesporis who made a forceful 45 from 76 balls partnered Smith for a 91 run third wicket stand. Lesporis ended the match with the second of his two sixes which he hit in addition to two fours.

Needing to win to avoid mathematical calculations with Jamaica for a semi-final spot the Trinis were reduced to 38 for 4 through a combination of good line and length bowling which created pressure and two clear poor umpiring decisions by Umpire Clancy Mack.

Kieron Pollard, batting at number 7 made a top score of 39 while Dwayne Bravo made 29. Pollard was last man out when he had his stumps splattered by Nelon Pascal (7.1-0-32-2) while Darren Sammy had the last laugh against Bravo who had hit him for two sixes.

Just three batsmen reached double figures during the shambolic Trini batting performance.

For the Windwards, in addition to Pascal, Mervin Matthew (8-3-20-2) and Shane Shillingford (10-1-23-2) also picked up two wickets apiece.
