Spooners Pressures Water Works

Spooners Football Team
By: source: www.strictlysportsinc.com, Press Release

Defending Champs kept the pressure on the main rival Water Works when they defeated a valiant effort from Any Weather in Saturday’s marquee match. Any Weather opened the scoring midway through the first half from the boot of Sean Martin. They were then urged on by several fans who wanted to see Spooners drop yet another point. That was not the case however as the equalizer came soon after. A defensive mix up between Delroy Delaney and one of his defenders resulted in a golden opportunity for Bjorn Morson who made no mistake and netted the ball from close range.

The game went to the interval in a deadlock and upon the resumption it was a superlative volley from veteran Tyrone O’loughlin that separated the teams. Steadroy “Caow” Charles then marshaled his defensive forces to keep out the Any Weather team. Ashton Davis had an ideal chance to equalize but his 18 yard shot went just over the cross bar.

The result meant that Spooners are now on 18 points from 7 games and Water Works have 16 from 6 games. The clear message from Spooners is catch me if you can.

In the earlier game 10-man Radicals fought bravely and earned a well deserved 3 points from Mantab. After trailing early from a Toussaint goal Radicals found themselves in all sorts of trouble and should be thanking the Tabernacle young forwards who could not find their finishing boots. In the second half a brace from Kirkland Harris gave Radicals the lead and they never looked back. They had a strong claim for a third goal denied after Christanja Carey in the Mantab goal mishandled a cross and the ball appeared to have crossed the line. Without modern goalmouth technology the officials were not able to award the goal although many players and some spectators felt that it had gone in.

Radicals however  were very satisfied with their win and have grown in confidence that they can make a real challenge one of the two remaining spots in the top four.

The league continues on Tuesday with Any Weather playing against Lodge then takes a break on Wednesday as Cayon plays its first game in the SKNFA League.
