BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A female employee of the Central Street Branch of the National General Insurance Corporation (NAGICO) was treated for trauma after she thwarted the efforts of two bandits who allegedly attempted to rob the financial institution.

According to a senior employee, at approximately 9:45 yesterday morning (Oct. 18), two men - one hooded and armed with a gun, and the other in normal attire - attempted to enter the building from the Central Street entrance.

“However, due to the vigilance of a female employee who observed their attire and the firearm in one of the men’s hand, she refused to open the door and immediately informed management,” the senior employee said.

The senior employee also indicated to this media house that the incident had left the female employee in a state of trauma and he had to take her to the JNF Hospital, where was treated and discharged.

He also stated that “she is still shaken from the incident and was given time-off”.

The senior employee explained that the door is “kept locked at all times and is only opened to customers after they would have knocked and identify themselves. In addition to the employee’s vigilance, this precautionary method has proven to be very effective in the prevention of undesirables entering the building”.

In recent months, bandits have been targeting business entities and have either attempted to or successfully robbed a number of them.

Among those business entities are: Gillard’s Texaco Gas Station, St. Peters; Royal Bank of Canada, Wellington Road Branch; Western Union outlet, West Independence Square Street; National Bank, Sandy Point Branch; and B’s Enterprises, Sandy Point.

All reported incidents are still being investigated by the police.
