Falmouth, Jamaica – Barbados escaped with a no result after rain which thrice interrupted play had the final say at the Trelawny Multi Purpose Stadium in their match against the feisty Sagicor High Performance Centre Team.
 
Sagicor HPC scored a patient 154 for 5 from 40 overs when rain stopped their innings. Despite one attempt to restart, the innings was ended and Barbados was asked to score 148 to win in 25 overs by way of the Duckworth Lewis formula.
Barbados never got out of the blocks as Sagicor HPC reduced them to 24 for 5 in 11 overs with Jonathan Carter not out on 6 and Dwayne Smith on 2.
 
The initial breakthrough was via the run out route as Dale Richards (2) played to mid wicket and rushed through for a single that was not on then Jason Holder made further inroads when he had Jason Haynes caught behind by Devon Thomas for 0.
 
There was another run out when Kevin Stoute was found short of his ground by a direct throw from long off and Kirk Edwards was bowled by Veerasammy Permaul for 6.
 
HPC needed to deliver 20 overs for a match to be constituted but with the rain and bad light it was not possible and they missed out on a semi final place in their debut tournament, that spot instead going to Leeward Islands who joined Windward Islands, Barbados and host Jamaica.
 
When HPC batted their innings was led by right hander Rajendra Chandrika who made a composed 52 from 89 balls with three fours.
 
Wicketkeeper Devon Thomas hit a brisk 31 from 30 balls with two fours and a six and captain Shamarh Brooks was not out on 19 when the innings ended prematurely.
 
There was a wicket apiece for Javon Searles, Kevin Stoute, Marlon Graham and Ryan Hinds.
