Rapper Nicki Minaj For Trinidad And Tobago

    CaribWorldNews, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Oct. 22, 2010: Trinidad-American rapper, Nicki Minaj, is taking her performance back to her roots.

     

    Minaj, fresh from wins at the BET Hip Hop Awards, is set to perform at the Jean Pierre Complex in Port-Of-Spain, Trinidad on October 30th.

     

    The show will conclude her 5-date `Pink Friday` tour that will kick off in Philadelphia tonight, October 22nd, and so far, run through October 30th. The tour will precede the launch of her new album, Pink Friday, which is set to hit stores on November 22.

     

    Minaj was born Onika Tonya Maraj on December 8, 1984 in Trinidad to parents of Indo and Afro Trinidadian descent.

     

    She lived in Trinidad with her grandmother until age 5 when she moved to Queens, New York. According to Minaj, her father drank alcohol, took drugs, and once tried to kill her mother by setting the house on fire.

    She attended Elizabeth Blackwell Middle School 210 and graduated from LaGuardia High School. At LaGuardia, a school specializing in music and the visual and performing arts, Minaj participated in the drama program. She once worked at a Red Lobster restaurant in the Bronx. On August 2009, Minaj signed to Young Money Entertainment with distribution from Universal Motown.
