Basseterre, St. Kitts - Ms. Julie Charles, the Director of the Liamuiga Youth Legacy Awards Association Selections Committee announced that after much deliberation and consultation, the 2010 Liamuiga Youth Legacy Awardees have been selected. She said that on Friday 12th November 2010 at the Ocean Terrace Inn at 6:00 p.m. Unoma Allen, Claudja Bradshaw, Suelika Creque, Virgil Hodge, Samal Duggins, Larry Vaughn, Jihan Williams and Dr. Garfield Alexander would be honoured by LYLAA.
Ms. Charles noted that for the first time in LYLAA’s history, the organization’s premiere award, the Legacy Award would be bestowed on two previous Awardees Jihan Williams and Dr. Garfield Alexander. She said, “When we solicited nominations on who should be chosen for the Legacy Awards, the recommendations were unanimous, as it was felt that these two individuals are carrying the torch to effect change within St. Kitts. The organization is quite proud that the public appreciates the contributions that are being made by Jihan and Garfield, enough so that they deem them worthy of the Legacy Award.”
The Director of the Selections Committee also noted that the organization which normally honours three exemplary young men and women will be honouring four young women and two young men at the 2010 LYLAA Awards ceremony.
Ms. Charles said that the 2010 selection’s process was an arduous one. “We received quite a number of nominations this year; interestingly enough the majority was via email. The 2010 Awardees should be quite honoured as much deliberation went into their selection and also because they would be joining a cadre of change agents who have effected and are continuing to effect change in St. Kitts.”
