Masud for 2010 Calypso arena

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – LOCAL sensation Masud Sadiki will be making a temporary transition this year from singing reggae to adding some competition to the calypso arena.

In an interview with SKNVIbes PEP, Masud, born Kevin Donovan, said he has been thinking about entering calypso competitions for a long time, but he recently decided that this would be the year.

He said he would not compete under the name of Masud Sadiki but as ‘A Stitch In Time’, which originated from a song he recently released UNIFEM and the Secretary General Ban Ki-moon of the United Nations for their campaign 'Unite to end violence against women'.

Masud went on to say that this would also be his way of contributing to carnival. He said he wishes that everyone would participate in some way to make the carnival great. He also commended the new committee for the recent impressive launch and wished them all the best.

The versatile singer said, “I always have something constructive to say. So I am going to bring my personal touch to calypso because it is good social commentary to motivate and inspire people.”

He noted that although he might shake his leg a little more or move around the stage and have fun, he would still bring the same kind of energy with his lyrics that he has done while singing reggae.

Masud is no stranger to calypso and soca music; he once managed the Razor Band and had penned many of their songs. He had also written songs for a number of junior calypsonians.

Masud also stated that he is looking forward to sharing his songs with the public, as he has been inspired by many calypsonians, both locally and regionally, and has been a calypso lover for years.

The public can expect two releases from Masud; the first one being next week while the other would follow soon after. He would be singing with the Legends Calypso Tent with hopes of making it to the calypso finals.

Both calypso tents, Proud Sounds and Legends, will be launched at Beaumont Park on November 7.
