Charlestown, Nevis - The Nevis Cricket Association held a very important meeting at the Elquemedo Willet Park last evening. There was a very impressive turn out to the meeting chaired by Cricket chief on the island, Ronald Powell.
Several key matters were discussed and some very important decisions made.
LICA three day tournament
President Powell indicated that he had received word from LICA that the Leeward Islands three day tournament will be held ‘sometime in November’, without a definite date being forwarded as yet.
The stated decision is that Nevis will field a team in the tournament despite the current unfavourable financial situation of the Association. A team will be selected shortly and placed into training.
Manager’s Report
A type written report from Manager of the Nevis team in the recently concluded NAGICO tournament, Malcolm Ramsey was read in the hearing of all. President Powell indicated that he had received the report on Tuesday 19th October. The report generally concurred with a previous verbal report given by Manager Ramsey which had been documented into the minutes of the Association, except for one slight change.
The report alluded to the alleged misconduct of three players viz Akito Willet, Jason Campbell and Joseph Williams while in St.Maarten representing the National team.
The general consensus of opinion was that such matters need to be dealt with seriously but with due caution. It was decided that the Manager’s report will be forwarded to the Disciplinary committee for immediate action, along with a written recommendation by the President on behalf of the Association.
President Powell also indicated that he had been promised a report from the Police officials in St.Maarten which has not yet arrived.
Manager’s Resignation
Another letter from Malcolm Ramsey was read in the hearing of all. In this letter, Ramsey thanked the Association for allowing him to serve in the capacity as Manager. He described his tenure as ‘generally enjoyable’.
An excerpt from his letter reads: “Though I have generally enjoyed my stint, I am in need of some personal time to reassess and re-evaluate my role and performance as Manager. Therefore it would not be possible to continue to serve at this time”.
He however later alluded to the possibility of again taking up the mantle as Manager some time in the future, once given the opportunity.
Ramsey’s resignation was accepted by the body and general expressions of gratitude for his contributions were made.
It was recognized that a new Manager would have to be appointed for the upcoming three day tournament.
The meeting ended with a general discussion on matters of fund raising and ways to improve the game of Cricket on the island.
