Press Release

Bridgetown, Barbados -- The West Indies Team has expressed best wishes to all persons affected by Hurricane Tomas. Captain Darren Sammy said: “On behalf of the team I would like to send best wishes to all the people affected. It’s a trying time for us in the Caribbean and we want our fans to know that we are with them in these difficult times. I would also like to send condolences to those families who lost loved ones.”

Hurricane Tomas caused destruction and death throughout the Eastern Caribbean. The islands hardest hit were Barbados, St Vincent and Grenadines and St Lucia. It is now heading towards Haiti and Jamaica. The West Indies players are presently in Barbados preparing for the tour of Sri Lanka. On Saturday they were kept indoors due to the bad weather.

“We will be going out there, not only playing for the St Lucians or the Bajans or the Vincentians who were affected by the storm, but the whole Caribbean people. Cricket is more than just a game to us in the region. It is important that we go out there and play well and show that we have the fans in mind,” Sammy said
