Press Release

Charlestown, Nevis - The weather conditions have played a pivotal role in the postponement of the mega drag racing event which was set to be hosted this coming weekend.

The event was previously planned for the Independence weekend but inclement weather conditions at the time prevented the overseas racers and their vehicles from coming to Nevis.

A Drag racing event was eventually held but that one featured racers from St.Kitts and Nevis.  Drag racing enthusiasts were all primed up for the mega event, this time planned for the period Friday 5th to Sunday 7th October 2010.
Racing fans were anticipating seeing the regional racers in action, beginning with a free car show at the Villa grounds on Friday and culminating with the races on Saturday and Sunday , with the grand finals slated for Sunday.

Christian Cozier of Pudgy Productions broke the sad news on NTV Sports last evening and explained that the main reason for the postponement was that the sea conditions have been badly affected by the passing of Hurricane Tomas and a Tropical Depression following hot on its heels has not helped the situation any.

Therefore the boat that was due to bring in the racers and their vehicles from Trinidad, St.Lucia and Antigua was unable to make the trip.
As a matter of fact, some of the racers have been affected directly by the wrath of Tomas with one in St.Lucia losing his home due to a mud slide.

Cozier explained that there was an emergency meeting yesterday afternoon which included Sports Minister Hon. Hensley Daniel and it was decided that the event will now be postponed to the period Friday twenty-sixth to Sunday twenty-eight November.

It is hoped that by then the weather conditions throughout the Caribbean would have sufficiently subsided as the official hurricane season comes to an end.

On Friday twenty-sixth there will be the free car show at the Villa grounds in Charlestown. Racing fans would be able to view the overseas cars close up, meet and greet the racers and even acquire autographs.

On Saturday 27th the races will feature the 13 and 12 seconds cars but not the finals.

The grand event will culminate on Sunday 28th with the primary focus being on the 11 and 10 seconds cars in their preliminary events and the grand finals for all categories later in the afternoon.

According to Cozier, there is no guarantee that there will be time for any grudge matches as the sun sets pretty early at this time of year.  However, he indicated that once the light permits, the grudge races will be allowed.

Racers and their vehicles are expected from Trinidad, St.Lucia, Antigua, St.Kitts and Nevis.  The admission to the Raceway is 20.00 for adults and half price for children.
Cozier is promising that despite the hold up that the race fans will be in for a rare treat when the event finally gets on the way.

    END
