Charlestown, Nevis - Final preparations were made yesterday at the ETW Park for the upcoming Masters Cricket league. At a meeting chaired by Sportscaster Curtis Morton, the following decisions were made:
• The name ‘Masters Parish league’ will stand.
• In order to be eligible to participate, players must be currently 37 years or older
• Matches will be of the T20 format and will be played in accordance with International T20 rules
• There will be no registration fee for the teams but teams are expected to bring along a ball for each game
• Balls must be 5 1/2 ounces and can be of a brand name of choice
• Matches will be played on Sundays and Thursdays as follows: Two matches on Sundays with the first match starting at 2pm sharp and the second match starting at 5pm sharp and one match on Thursdays commencing at 5pm sharp
• The league will commence on Sunday 14th November at 1pm sharp with a brief opening ceremony. This will be immediately followed by an exciting match between the Dango Farrell St.Kitts Clem Hicks eleven versus the Nevis Clem Hicks eleven. On the completion of this match, the five Parish teams will engage in a two overs knockout competition. All teams are expected to be present at the opening ceremony in uniforms
• The five Parishes on the island will be represented in terms of the following colours: All players will wear white trousers but the following colour shirts have been assigned to the teams—St.Paul’s—Yellow; St.James-orange; St.John’s--maroon; St.George’s-purple and St.Thomas’—green.
• If matches do not commence at the scheduled times, the overs will be reduced appropriately
• The main sponsor of the league is Nevis Multi Line, situated at Ramsbury
• DIGICEL will also sponsor two phones as well
• The following prizes will be up for grabs: Winning team-Five hundred dollars; Second placed team-three hundred dollars and the tournament MVP-two hundred dollars. The bowler with the most wickets and the batsman with the most runs will each receive a brand new cell phone.
• The matter of naming the tournament in honour of one of the legends of Nevis cricket was not discussed but will be finalized with the main sponsor.
