BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, NOVEMBER 4TH 2010 (CUOPM) – The Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas has congratulated President-elect of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Her Excellency Dilma Rousseff.

“Democracy has spoken and Brazilians have once again elected your Worker’s Party (PT) to govern and lead them through the many challenges which confront them,” Dr. Douglas said to Ms. Rousseff, who takes office on January 1st 2011.

Dr. Douglas told the incoming Brazilian leader, who will become the first Brazilian woman to hold the position and destined to become one of the most powerful women in the world, that the people of Brazil “have demonstrated great confidence in your potential to lead and follow the ideologies of your predecessor, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.”

“Your recent election has echoed the trend across Latin America and the Caribbean that more and more, women are assuming high-level political roles. I therefore urge you to continue working assiduously to achieve the Millennium Development Goals and to foster deeper hemispheric relations,” said Prime Minister Douglas.

St. Kitts and Nevis said it intends to build a stronger relation with Brazil so that every opportunity will be made available for mutual cooperation.
