BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, NOVEMBER 7TH 2010 (CUOPM) – Prominent Nevisian lawyer Dr. Henry Browne says public funds were not used to finance the response of Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports, Information Technology, Telecommunications and Posts, Hon. Glenn Phillip to defend the legal challenge brought by the Political Leader of the People’s Action Movement (PAM), Mr. Lindsay Grant.

“For the avoidance of doubt, let me make it abundantly clear that public funds were not used to finance the response of the Hon. Minister Phillip to Mr. Grant’s frivolous petition,” said Dr. Browne at a news conference.

“That same fact applies with equal force to the situation with respect to Mr. Cedric Liburd. Cedric Liburd hired a private lawyer, which he was obliged to do. My friend Mr. Phillip sought my services and I gave him the best services I can give,” said Dr. Browne.

“I want everybody to understand that, especially those who are pedaling it,” said Dr. Browne.

Minister Phillip said he was pleased with the representation by Dr. Browne and the Judge’s decision and publicly expressed sincere thanks to his lawyer and friend disclosing that during the count when he was behind he received a telephone call from Dr. Browne who told him in colourful language ‘come from under your bed, don’t worry about it, everything is gonna be all right.”

Mr. Anthony also expressed thanks to other members of the legal team in the matter, including prominent Dominica-born attorney of Kittitian parentage, Senior Counsel, Mr. Anthony Astaphan, who led and argued on behalf of the Supervisor of Elections and Mr. Arudranauth  Gossai, who appeared for the members of the Elections Commission.
