Ross University not affiliated with University of Medicine & Health Sciences…says Dean DeYoung

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – DEAN and Professor at the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine David J. DeYoung has cleared the air on the misconception in the St. Kitts and Nevis’ community that his institution is affiliated with the University of Medicine and Health Sciences and also the International University of Nursing.

“As Dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine, I am extremely proud of our programme and feel it is most important to reveal some of the key indicators that differentiate our university,” Professor DeYoung said.

DeYoung further said that the business affairs of Ross University are conducted independently and do not bear any association with the University of Medicine and Health Sciences, the International School of Nursing or any other school or university within the twin-island Federation.

He however noted that the only affiliation his institution has within the West Indies is with Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica.

“Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine wants to ensure our business relationships are handled with the appropriate professionalism and detail deserved. Every effort is made to make certain our business dealings – events, accounting, communications, etc. – within the community are managed effectively and efficiently,” the Dean added.

Ross University was founded in 1978 and is a provider of medical and veterinary education, offering doctor of medicine and doctor of veterinary medicine degree programmes. The School of Medicine is located in Dominica and the School of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1982, is located at West farm in St. Kitts.

Ross University was initially established by Robert Ross, who sold the institution to Leeds Equity Partners in 2000. In 2003, Leeds sold the school to DeVry, Inc. which ended any affiliations Ross University had with Robert Ross.

As a corporate organisation, Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine has made numerous donations to other organisations in the federation, including the JNF General Hospital and the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.
