BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MESSAGES flooded the internet and cell phones yesterday (Nov. 7) and quickly spread like wildfire that popular Jamaican dancehall singer Vybz Kartel was shot dead by another artiste.

On reading the messages, SKNVibes PEP immediately contacted a number of sources in Jamaica, who all said they did not receive such news and were certain it was just a rumour.

This media house also spoke with a member of the Portmore Empire Camp, which is headed by Vybz Kartel, and was assured that the ‘Go Go Club’ singer is alive and well and was not shot.

Several minutes after a broadcast message via Blackberry Messenger had been circulated stating that Kartel was shot and had passed away, another broadcast message followed. This message was said to have been sent from Vybz Kartel’s Blackberry saying, “Me a bad man wey tun deejay, doh mix me wid de deejays weh tun badman. Artiste shot me? You mad man.”

The Blackberry broadcast message also stated that “Kartel had changed his status message to ‘Shot who’ when the rumour started circulating then back to ‘Adidjaheim’”.

Vybz Kartel, who was born Adijah Palmer, is currently one of the biggest artistes out of Jamaica and continues to make a name for himself with hit after hit and also as the ‘Gaza Boss’.

Just two weeks ago rumours were circulating that reggae sensation Gyptian had died, which also turned out to be false.
