The Nevis Reformation Party in its lead up to local elections due on July 10 2006 launched the first of its two new candidates on Tuesday July 27th 2006 in Stoney Grove in the person of the dynamic Robelto Hector.  Many awaited this launch as he is seen as the candidate to watch in the upcoming elections.

The official launch of Robelto Hector by the party was indeed the culmination of the prediction by many since the days when Robelto was a child that he would soon enter elective politics.  His humble demeanour, ability to mix and mingle with all people, his articulate manner of speech and his genuine nature make him the ideal candidate and Nevisians turned out in their numbers to hear him.

While everyone was looking for Robelto, he emerged walking out of Stoney Grove with his parents and a band of St Paul NRP supporters behind him marching to one of NRP's campaign jingles.  It was a launch with variety as there were songs by the Charlestown Group, poems by a fellow Stoney Grover, an endorsement from Idella Newton of Stoney Grove and endorsements from each candidate of the NRP.

The atmosphere was understandably charged when it was finally Robelto Hector's turn to speak but he could not begin his speech until almost ten minutes after he got up to do so because he was immediately mobbed by members of his constituency whom he actually had to come down off the stage to meet and greet.  He again could not start as supporters jumped onto the stage to kiss and hug Robelto.

It was Robelto's speech that stirred the audience while throughout he made the point that he was a servant of the people.  He commented "I stand before you tonight on this grand occasion, as a mere servant.    I stand before you humbly knowing that it is you the people of Charlestown who will determine whether or not I am elected.  I stand before you tonight knowing that if elected, I am elected by YOU, to do YOUR business, in YOUR BEST interests and NOTHING ELSE." He went on to make the point that he was serious about governance.  He said, "let me explain to you how I view governance.  I believe that governance is serious business.  I believe that when you assume political office, you are
expected to carry the hopes and dreams of a better life for the people who elected you.  I believe that governance places a serious responsibility on us to deliver the goods of the people who put you in office.  In government, you are put in control of all the country's resources and it is your job to manage it well and ensure that at all times; it is the people are who benefit.  This is a serious responsibility my friends and one that I do not intend to take lightly."

Robelto went on to speak of the various things he would do if elected which included the transformation of Gallows Bay to make it a hive of economic activity, a cleaner Charlestown, the granting of duty free vehicles to anyone who has served 25 years or more in the Civil Service, the reduction in the cost of living by removing burdensome taxes so that the basic foods can again be very affordable and the provision of a drag racing facility to make it an economic activity.  Robelto ended by referring to July 10th (Election Day) as Liberation Day saying that it was only a matter of time before the people of Nevis could all join in the old Negro Spiritual and say "Free at last, Free at last&thank God Almighty we are free at last."

The crowd roared, cheered and screamed throughout while others hung on his every word as if spellbound by his ability to articulate on the issues with such profound knowledge.  After his speech was ended, Robelto was again mobbed by members of the Charlestown constituency while people pulled at his jacket and his arm demanding their hugs.  The night ended with the deejay playing all of the songs on the NRP CD and the crowd rocking and swaying to the music.  The next launch will be of Nurse Patsy Hanley of St Georges constituency in Hanley's Road on Friday 30 June 2006.
