    Charlestown, Nevis - The matches that were postponed due to poor weather conditions on Sunday night in the Malcolm Guishard Basketball league were played last evening at the Church Ground Basketball court.

     

    In game one, a determined CSS Black Mambas came up against the Craddock Road team which interestingly saw the return to the court of former Nevis ace player, Cynric Cairy no Deputy Comptroller of Customs.

     

    The CSS boys rallied and received loud cheers whenever they outran their older opponents and with their very vocal Coach and sponsor on the side lines, they truly gave it their all.  At the end of the game however, the score line was 44 to 23 in favour of Craddock Road.

     

    For Craddock Road, Cynric Cairy scored 24 points; 6 rebounds and 4 assists; Sandu Williams 6 points; 10 rebounds; 1 assist; Elroy Clarke 2 points; 12 rebounds; 1 assist.

     

    For the CSS Black Mambas: Mervin Hercules 9 points; 13 rebounds and 1 assist; Marvin Ross 1 point; 13 rebounds and 1 assist; Kvell Tyson 4 points; 6 rebounds and 1 assist.

     

    Next it was the turn of the GSS Green Hornets as they came up against the recent finalist in the SKABA premier division, and current champions, the Joseph Parry CG Rebels.

     

    It was obvious that the youngsters were not the least overawed by the situation and the small crowd was treated to some occasional great ball play by the youths.  When Jennerson France was emphatically blocked by one youngster, this brought the crowd to its feet, leaving a surprised France shaking his head in disbelief. Then there was a wonderful combination of passes which resulted in a thrilling three pointer and the crowning moment came as one of the youngsters leaped towards the board and dunked with the emphasis of a Michael Jordan—the crowd went wild.

     

    Despite this however, it was obvious that the champion team was working to a plan, they were aiming to get to the hundred mark—and that they did in the dying moments of the game.  Even with some new faces on court, with no Lewis in the team and no Ev Webbe, they showed why they are the champions.

     

    The final score line belies the energy demonstrated by the young players:  Hon Joseph Parry CG Rebels 105 GSS Green Hornets 26.

     

    For CG Rebels: Jennerson France 35 points; 10 rebounds and 5 assists; Kelvin Hobson 14 points; 13 rebounds; 2 assists; Donford Wilkinson 15 points; 9 rebounds 1 assist.

     

    For GSS green Hornets: Norris Williams 9 points; 7 rebounds; Orisso Griffin 2 points; 5 rebounds; 4 assists; Denrick Liburd 8 points; 1 rebound; 1 assist.

     

    The next game will be on Wednesday 10th November when Joseph Parry CG Rebels takes on CSS Black Mambas at 6.30 pm.

     

    Many of the Basketball fans are saying they cannot wait to see the two Secondary schools engage each other.  It is expected to be the match of the tournament.
