“We want to send a clear message of our unanimous and firm support of Mr. Grant,” says Community activist Clive Webster

Basseterre, St. Kitts - People's Action Movement Constituency #4 Group has announced their re-affirmation of support for Lindsay Grant as the party’s constituency representative and party Political Leader.

Chairman of the group on Saturday gave notice that his group is in full support of the leadership of Lindsey F. Grant both at the constituency level and the national level. The announcement was made in light of the recent court decision delivered by Judge Harispashard-Charles to strike out the petition filed by Mr. Lindsay Grant against the January 25th election of Glen Phillip.

“The constituency group has met and have had discussions regarding the recent court decision and the next step for the group,” said Community Activist Webster. “The group felt very strongly that a clear message must be sent declaring the groups continued unanimous and  firm support of the leadership of Mr. Grant at all levels ,” the  Constituency#4 Peoples Action Movement Group Chairman continued.

People’s Action Movement Leader Lindsay Grant contested both the 2004 and 2010 elections and lost by some 54 votes in 2004 and 29 in 2010. This despite the presence of hundreds of voters who were not properly registered having not being resident in the constituency. Many if not all of these voters are known activists of the ruling Labour Party, most of whom came from the labour stronghold of St.Pauls which is in the heart of the Prime Minister’s constituency. An abundance of video footage and photos clearly showed hundreds of residents from the Prime Minister’s constituency voting in Constituency#4 where they were not resident and should have not been registered. In addition there were widespread reports of bribery and intimidation.

In commenting on the court decision Grant told the media that the decision was one of a technical nature.  He indicated that the judge was of the view that she was bound by the recent decision coming out of Antigua just about one week ago.

“One must note also that she also said the time was overdue in terms of rules and regulations governing election petitions. So it is up to the government to ensure that these rules and regulations for the election petitions are introduced,” the main Opposition Party Leader said.

Chairman of the Constituency #4 group further stated that his group will continue to work as they have been doing in assisting with the development of the constituency and its people and in supporting Mr. Grant’s efforts as the true representative of the constituency.
