Press Release

Charlestown, Nevis - At a meeting held at the Old Manor Hard court last evening, Curtis Morton Sr was elected as Captain of the St.George’s Masters Parish team that will be participating in the upcoming Masters Parish league, which is set to bowl off this coming Sunday at 1 pm at the Ramsbury grounds.

Junior ‘Duncan’ Mills declined the original offer to captain the team and Sterling ‘DJ Marshall’ Heyliger was elected as Morton’s deputy.

Issues such as fitness, training and practice were discussed and each player is expected to bring along $20.00 EC to Sunday’s opening ceremony to take care of the expenses for balls.

The St.George’s team will be sporting a purple jersey along with white trousers and Morton indicated that based on the players who showed up and the interest level demonstrated he expects his team to do well.

As chief organizer of the tournament, Morton also stated that all of the teams will be told of a proposal to ensure that they show up for their games on time.  The proposal is that once a team cannot field at least seven players up to half an hour after the scheduled start of the game, that team will forfeit the game.

It was noted that in the recent league organized by Dango Farrell over in St.Kitts, the players and the umpires, consistently showed up on time and Morton is hoping that the players for the upcoming league will follow suit.

According to Morton, everything is pretty much in place for the 1pm opening ceremony on Sunday and brief remarks will be delivered either by The Minister of Sports, Hon Hensley Daniel or Permanent Secretary Alsted Pemberton, Digicel’s representative and Marketing chief, Genieve Hanley who will also bring along the two Digicel phones which will be up for grabs and a representative from major sponsor of the league, Nevis Multi Line.

Immediately after the opening ceremony, the Nevis based team and the St.Kitts based team from the recently concluded Clem Hicks tournament, will engage each other followed by a two overs knock out contest between the Parish teams.

    END
