Charlestown Primary and Joycelyn Liburd Primary take top honours in league opener

CPS MVP--Donald Cornelius
Press Release

Charlestown, Nevis - No league matches were played when the 2010 Primary School Football league got on the way with an opening ceremony last week.  However, Sports Coordinator in the Ministry of Education and chief organizer of the tournament, Lydia Thompson-Claxton, invited the teams and Coaches present to participate in a friendly competition.

Participants were asked to attempt shots at goal from various points of the field, marked by cones.  The further away from the goal, the more points were allotted.

In the end the results for the schools were as follows:

    Charlestown Primary 75

    Elizabeth Pemberton Primary 75

    Ivor Walters 65

    Joycelyn Liburd 15

Charlestown Primary and the Elizabeth Pemberton Primary then had a ‘kick-off’ to determine a clear winner and CPS scored 25 to Elizabeth Pemberton’s 20.

The results for the Coaches were:

    Kurvin Wallace 25-JLP

    Adelvin Phillip 25-EP

Eddy Caines who attempted all big shots-0

In the ‘sudden death’ between Wallace and Phillip, Wallace converted and Phillip missed his shot and Wallace therefore was adjudged the winner.

“It was just a fun thing’, noted Sports Coordinator Lydia Claxton.
