BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS 11 November, 2010:  The recently-concluded Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) conference hosted by the Rotary Clubs of St. Kitts & Nevis on behalf of the Clubs in District 7030 has received high marks from the participants.

The nearly 200 delegates from across the Caribbean gave a near excellent rating for the conference programme held over the period 29th October to November 1st.   A number of conference participants singled out the opportunity to discuss solutions to common problems that are being experienced by young people all across the region as the high point of the conference.  “I liked the fact that RYLA 2010 could bring all youth of the Caribbean together to realise that we are one family, one Caribbean,” one delegate wrote.

Leah Sahely, Chair for the RYLA 2010 Conference, said that she was satisfied that the conference met or exceeded most of its objectives.  “This was clearly a huge undertaking as it was historic and I have to thank corporate St. Kitts and Nevis, Rotarians and a host of other private benefactors who made it possible.  I consider the overwhelming support as a commitment to working with the young people of the Caribbean as we seek through RYLA to fashion them into future leaders,” she said.

District Governor, Anthony Watkins who spent the weekend at the conference had high praise himself for the organisers. “Kudos to the RYLA 2010 Chair and the whole team for making it a successful RYLA.  It does take a lot of organizing and it seemed as if registration went on quietly but effectively,” he noted. Commenting on the conference programme, DG Anthony said that the subject matters were appropriately chosen for the participants as were the presenters.

The organizing committee of RYLA 2010 wishes to publicly express its thanks and appreciation to the management of the International University of Nursing (IOUN) for the use of its facilities to host the days’ sessions.  It was widely agreed that the venue provided a near perfect setting for the working sessions with all of the appropriate classroom technology that the presenters had access to. “We owe a debt of gratitude to the management of IUON for allowing us to use its facilities over the weekend.  The ambience of the premises also added to the overall experience of the delegates as was confirmed by their favourable rating for the overall conference facilities,” said Chair Leah.

The Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) conference is held each year and hosted by a member club of District 7030.
