By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A daring mid-morning robbery at the New Street, Basseterre Branch of the St. Kitts Cooperative Credit Union Ltd. has caused a number of spouses and close relatives of employees of the financial institution to express concern for their safety.

At Approximately 10:45 a.m. today (Nov. 17), SKNVibes received information that the Credit Union was robbed of an undisclosed sum of money.

On arrival at the scene, a contingent of police officers, who were later joined by ranks from the Defence Force, were seen conducting investigations, while pockets of curious onlookers had gathered on the sidewalks.

SKNVibes spoke to one of the officers, who indicated that investigations were ongoing and he could not have provided any information at the time. He however stated that information would be made available on completion of their preliminary investigation.

His media house however learnt from an individual, who was among the onlookers, that one of her relatives is employed at the financial institution and she was concerned about her safety.

The individual stated that she was informed that the bandits were “wearing wigs, appearing to be females, when they entered the premises, pulled out their guns, robbed the Credit Union and escaped before the police’s arrival”. She, and also a concerned spouse of one of the employees, said no one was injured during the robbery, and “for this we are happy”.

At press time, the information on the alleged wig-wearing bandits remained unconfirmed; however, more details will follow as information is made available by the police.
