Beaumont Park Soca Monarch attracts heavyweights

King Konris is the last Soca Monarch winner
Press Release

Basseterre, St Kitts – Twenty-five Soca Artistes have so far registered for the revived Beaumont Park Soca Monarch scheduled for December 18 as part of the Sugar Mas’ activities for 2010/2011.  The headliners include Shaki, Anastasia, X-Man Mr. World, Ras Kelly, Smilie, Rucas, Hotrod, Jeezy, Soca Samuel, Richie Buntin, and Foxy.

King Konris, the last winner of the competition in 2007/2008 will also be belting out his sweet brand of soca.

Twelve finalists would be selected by a panel of four judges during the week of November 26-30. The National Carnival Committee continues to accept CD submissions from all competing artistes until registration closes November 26.

The show has re-emerged on the Carnival Schedule after being shelved for the past two seasons. This year’s version would feature solo, duets, or groups with soca songs measured at 125-165 beats per minute.

Each artiste can enter a maximum of two original songs never before sung in the competition. The preliminary stage is determined by the submission of a properly produced CD.

A definite buzz has been created so far with releases from some of the top soca entertainers. This show also comes back at a time when the National Carnival Committee has shown its commitment to further enhance the development of the Soca Art Form in the local market.

With interest running very high for the show, local race track owners Beaumont Park has come on board to brand the show as the title sponsor. General Manager Richard Cummins handed over the sponsorship check on October 31 at Beaumont Park after a fun filled day at the races.

The winner of the Beaumont Park Soca Monarch would represent the Federation at all regional Soca Monarch competitions and must agree to defend the title in the subsequent year of the show.

The National Carnival Committee encourages any Soca artistes who still have an interest in participating in this Soca Spectacle for Sugar Mas’ to register at the Carnival Secretariat on Victoria Road. Email
