BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – Shajahma O’Donoghue ruined her makeup as tears of joy rolled down her face Saturday night (Nov. 20) when her named was announced as Miss Shadarama 2010.
O’Donoghue also won the awards for the Best Introductory Speech, Best Talent and Best African Wear.
The show was held at the Shadorama Festival City in the vicinity of Shadwell and was a part of the second annual revived Shadorama Festival. The event began on Nov. 13 and ended Nov. 20 and was celebrated under the theme ‘Fete and Spree in Unity helping to develop a crime free Community’.
In the First Runner-up position was Crystal Boyles, who also won the award for Best Creative Batik Wear, while Shakeda Gerald was adjudged Second Runner-up. The other contestants were Christina Hodge and Naomi Finch.
The show began sometime after 8:00 p.m. with Calypso Reggie performing the duties of Master of Ceremonies while the Kollision Band and DJ We Dutt provided music for the night. There were also featured performances by Hot Rod, Shakki, Calypso Reggie and the Shadwell Tiny Tots.
The contestants were judged in Introductory Speech, Creative Batik Wear, Talent and African Wear. The festival’s theme had to be incorporated in their Talent performance, and for the Introductory Speech the contestants were each given a profession that relates to crime in which they had to mimic.
The show ended after 1:00 a.m with O’Donoghue being crowned by outgoing Miss Shadorama Amanny Green just before she took her final walk.
The Kollision Band brought the curtains down on the event with a jam session leading into the wee hours of the morning.
