Foxy is back; but with some spunk

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER a three-year hiatus, Kanava Pereira, popularly known as Foxy in the calypso arena, is back after a three-year hiatus to bring some spunk to this year’s female competition.

According to the young calypsonian, she has two songs - ‘SK Party’ and ‘Bondage’ – with which she hopes to compete in the upcoming competitions. She said she intends to sing ‘SK Party’ in the Soca Monarch Competition and ‘Bondage’ in the Female Calypso Bacchanal.

“SK Party is about the things that happen during the carnival season and how we Kittitians party. Bondage, on the other hand, speaks of us still being in bondage because, although we were emancipated from slavery, we are still in slavery in some way,” said Foxy.

Foxy emerged in the calypso arena in 2003 and competed for the last time in 2006 before taking a break to further her education in college.

She said she is back with the same high energy and personality, but with a little more spunk. Both of her songs are self-written and she will be singing with the Legends Calypso Tent.

Today will mark the official release of ‘SK Party’.
