AT a press conference held at the Nevis Red cross headquarters yesterday, President of the Titans Athletic club, Mr. Timothy Caines revealed that eight athletes from Nevis will very early next year be given the opportunity to get an audition at the University of Kansas in the USA.
The athletes will journey to the US and will be able to participate in the Jayhawk invitational hosted by the University of Kansas.
They will be afforded a close up look by the scouts from the University and be given a tour of the University as well.
Caines revealed that getting the audition does not guarantee the athletes a definite scholarship but believes that his athletes who have all left school or who are on the verge of completing their high school years will all be successful.
The scholarship is a very lucrative one and will cater for airfare to and from the US; meals; accommodation and study materials for the entire study period.
The athletes who will be flown to the USA for the audition are:
Dawin Browne; Devene Smithen; Raynaldon Bartlette; Brittany Smithen; Izuan Ward; Nicola Fraser; Shaniqua Tyrell and Lawrington Forbes.
According to Caines, his athletes and his executive are currently engaged in regular weekly fund raising activities in order to finance the trip for the January 28th audition. These include weekly barbecue events at the Govt Road club house and an upcoming take away lunch.
He is imploring the general public to assist the athletes in this worthwhile life impacting endeavour.
