Press Release

Little Loxs and Water Works earned the right to play in the Green Valley League Finals after contrasting victories over the week end.

On Saturday Water Works (the number 1 ranked team) dispatched # 4 Lodge 2-0 without much difficulty.

The Benjamin brothers posed several problems to the Lodge defense and very early in the game Kervin Benjamin should have scored but gave the responsibility to Akazi Richards whose shot was blocked by the Lodge defenders.

After half time, the game remained deadlock at nil – nil. On the resumption it was Kevin Benjamin who created and scored the first goal. He picked up a loose ball on the left flank dribbled one defended and drove into the box. There he was tackled from behind which gave referee Quang Harris little option but to point to the spot. Kevin took the spot kick and converted. Water works remained on the attack and once again Kervin Benjamin proved dangerous as he eluded the Lodge defenders but his shot produced a brilliant save form Tom Fergus in the Lodge goal going low to his left to deflect the ball.

With about 10 minutes remaining Waterworks put the game away when Kevin Benjamin got around the Lodge defenders and goal keeper and slotted home in an empty net. At that point Waterworks booked their passage to the finals.

Little Loxs on the other hand were on the verge of suffering a long 1-0 to Spooners  when the game back to draw level and force the game to over time then penalty kicks.

Kurt Morton had given Spooners the lead midway thru the first half when Omali “Struggle “ O’loughlin knocked down a long throw  in for Morton to latch onto and convert low to Valentine Anthony’s right. The game remained that way for a very long period until the dying moments of the second half when Little Loxs sent extra men forward, Kimland “Daba” Powell who drifted up the right side sent a perfect cross into the inside left channel. There Lesman “Hodgie” Abbott had crept from behind got enough head on the ball to deflect it into the goal. The two extra time period remained scoreless and the game had to be decided on penalty kick. Anthony who is an excellent shot block turned back two of Spooner penalties while Little Loxs were able to convert 4 of their 5 then celebrated their right to meet Water works.

The finals which will be the best of three commences on Thursday 2nd December with the back to back deciders planned for the weekend.
