Press Release

The St Kitts Nevis Football Association Premier League is now in its fifth week and it has shaped up to be an unpredictable first round. The Premiere Division will now consist of three rounds of matches. The decision of the three rounds of play is in order to have more football being played at the highest level. At the beginning of the season most of the top teams were expected to dominate the first round, but this has now proven to be more difficult than anticipated.

The Premier Division consists of nine teams: Newtown United-Champion, St Peters, S L Horsford St Paul’s, UDC Garden Hotspurs, Rams Village Superstars, Coury Gatorade Conaree, KFC Trinity/Challengers United, MANTAB, and newly appointed St Thomas Trinity Strikers.

As the end of the first round of matches is almost completed we see some of the senior teams in the premiere struggling to stay in the top four.  This year’s first round competition is important because at the end of the round we will see the top four teams vying for the first ever Sugar Mas Cup.  The Sugar Mas Cup is collaboration with Carnival Committee and the St Kitts Nevis Football Association. This initiative was put in place in order to make every game count and also to add a unique activity to carnival.

The current standings with two weeks of play remaining in the first round leaves many fans wondering what the next round will hold.  The point standing shows St Paul’s leading with 15 points followed by Newtown and St Thomas/Trinity Strikers who are new to the fraternity tied at second with 13 points and Coury Gatorade Conaree rounding out the top four with 8 points. These ranking can all changed in the coming weeks before the Carnival Cup as teams still have a few games left to be played.

Who will be the top four for the Sugar Mas Cup? Will it be S L Horsfords St Paul’s, Newtown United, St. Thomas/Trinity Strikers FC and Coury Gatorade Conaree or will there be an upset of the top four teams?  Fans are encouraged to come on out and support their teams as it will be interesting to know who will be in the top four and play in the first ever Sugar Mas Cup Final Four.
