BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, NOVEMBER 30TH 2010 (CUOPM) – Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas denied Tuesday rumours that his Administration plans to reduce the salaries of civil servants by 10 percent.
“I just want to say emphatically that it is not so. I have no plans whatsoever,” said Prime Minister Douglas in response to questions from two callers during his weekly radio programme “Ask the Prime Minister” on Tuesday.
Dr. Douglas said it is “a deliberate malicious rumour by those who want to bring disaffection between the Government and the people of St. Kitts and Nevis and have resorted to innuendoes, lies and they have been deliberately malicious attacking critically important institutions of this country in an attempt to bring disaffection and also to undermine the integrity of a number of our financial institutions, but it will not work.”
“It is a deliberate and malicious lie that is being peddled by those who are the enemies of the people, the enemies of the state,” said Prime Minister Douglas, whose St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party won 60 percent of the votes on St. Kitts in the January 25th 2010 General Elections.
Dr Douglas said the people of St. Kitts and Nevis are very much educated, can analyze for themselves and are fully aware that they are living in a country, and in a world that every other country has been impacted by the global financial and economic crisis.
