BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - FOUR-TIME National Calypso Monarch and current Leeward Islands Calypso King Konris Maynard may be taking another break this year from the Calypso Monarch bull ring.
SKNVibes PEP received information that the calypso extraordinaire would not be competing in this year’s competition. However, when contacted, Maynard said he had not yet made a public statement whether or not he would be participating.
“I will probably do so tomorrow or Saturday when I release my song for the Soca Monarch Competition, but I am probably not competing,” he said.
Maynard is the last person to have been crowned Soca Monarch King before it took a two-year hiatus from the National Carnival lineup. Therefore, he will be competing with his rendition of ‘Unstoppable Force’ in this competition.
The four-time king took a break from the calypso arena in 2009, which he described as not a retirement by any means “but just a short Calypso sabbatical”.
