Press Release

Waterworks soaked a long 1-0 on arch rival Little Loxs to take game three of the finals and in doing so won the Green Valley League that resumed this year after a sabbatical.

Waterworks proved their depth by playing without three of their key players in Jemaine “Pigeon” Riley – Goal keeper and the attacking duo of the Benjamin brothers. Kevin had Riley both had  one game suspension after receiving red cards in the second of the best of three finals and Kervin limped off early in the game with an ankle injury.

Captain Alcan “I-Cup” Richards took matters in his own hands and went forward on a set piece taken by Kadeem Lewis. Goal keeper Valentine Anthony slapped the ball away but only into the path of Richards who made no mistake in heading home in the 17th minute. Moments later a similar play developed and again Anthony was beaten by Ashton “King” Micheal but only to see his effort rebound from the crossbar.

Little Loxs then took over midfield domination but could not get that final penetrative pass to cut into the water works defense. The game went to the interval with the same score line. On the resumption Little Lox went all out for an equalizer but came very close only once when Tavis “Ninja” Henry struck a hard low drive that came back from the upright for the Waterworks keeper to push away.

Waterworks kept their defensive form and at the same time developed some dangerous counterattacks that could have sealed the game for them. However Kadeem Lewis shot wide one of Waterworks best chances and they had to rely on their experienced defense led by veteran Clay “Hulk” McKoy to deliver the game for them.

On Thursday last Waterworks took game 1 while Little Loxs bounced back on Saturday to win game to on penalty kicks after regulation time ended 2-2. That was waterworks first defeat in the entire league and on that basis they deserve to take the title.
