Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 6, 2010 (SKNIS): The Ministry of Education and The Alliance Francaise have strengthened cooperation towards better performance in learning French through the implementation of a new technology based learning tool.
Europaas is a French E-learning programme which follows the progression of the local secondary schools’ programme from Form 1 to 5.
“It allows students to be immersed in French through exposing them to daily situations through video and audio,” Director of the Alliance Francais Rita Schneider told SKNIS, “Grammatical exercises are done with auto or real-time correction giving students the advantage”. She also revealed that the programme was conceived at her institution.
The Regional Cooperation Counsel of Guadeloupe funded the implementation of the programme in two pilot schools in St. Kitts: Verchilds and Washington Archibald High.
The aim is to standardize the teaching of French in the Federation by expanding the programme to the remaining high schools in the 2011-2012 school year.
Deputy President on the Conseil Regional in Guadeloupe Madame Fely Kacy Bambuck told participants at the launch that their French abilities have the potential to escalate. She further noted that this same programme is a valuable tool in preparing students for the exam of DELF (Diplome D’etudes en langue Francaise which is recognized by the French Ministry of Education as part of the Common European Framework of reference for languages.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education Osmond Petty told SKNIS that the Europass Programme is excellent because, “it supports the ministry’s efforts to generate interest in Foreign Languages; It also prepares more young people to work in the Tourism Industry and it is also in keeping with the Ministry’s White Paper Policy of having ICT integrated into all aspects of the learning process.”
