Another man to face buggery charges

BUGGERY ACCUSED: Mario Alexander Harvey - a.k.a Antonio
By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ANOTHER man is in police custody and is expected to face buggery charges as were recently instituted against newspaper vendor Mario Harvey of Lockhart Street Basseterre.

Police Press and Public Relations Officer (PRO), Inspector Vaughan Henderson this afternoon (Dec. 8) confirmed that Harvey was charged with the offence and similar charges are expected to be laid on another male.

“On Wednesday 7th December 2010 at approximately 5:15 p.m. at the Basseterre Police Station, police detectives at the Criminal Investigations Department formally arrested and charged 38-year-old Mario Alexander Harvey, also known as Antonio, of Lockhart Street, Basseterre on a warrant in the first offence of Buggery which was committed upon a certain male person between 9th July and 13th October 2010.

“The detectives also have another male suspect in custody for Buggery and charges are expected to be laid not later than Thursday 9th December 2010. In relation to Harvey, the police objected to bail and he was remanded to HM Prisons today awaiting trial. Investigations are ongoing,” Henderson said.

SKNVibes had however published an article yesterday headlined “Newspaper vendor charged with buggery” and noted that Harvey had sodomised a male mentally challenged juvenile on four occasions between July 9 and October 13, 2010.

The article also noted that the alleged incidents took place in the vicinity of the People’s Action Movement’s Headquarters at Lockhart Street, Basseterre, where the police executed a search warrant and took some items of evidential value into custody for further analysis.

Information reaching this media house suggests that the male suspect, who is in police custody pending buggery charges, is alleged to be Harvey’s accomplice and may have committed the act on the same individual as the newspaper vendor.

More on this issue as information is made available.
