Another intriguing contest was played last evening in the Legends ‘cup series hosted by the Nevis Football Association.
Champions BA Slybo Stoney Grove Strikers came up against a determined Villa Untied.
The champion team appeared as if they were going to dominate from the outset as within the first five minutes of the contest, Clester Evans catapulted a cross into the back of the net, leaving the goal keeper sprawling on the ground.
A determined Villa United team however, responded within a minute with a rocket of their own, as Stoney Grove’s goalie ‘Muscle’ was left flat footed, after an awkward attempt at a save.
Thereafter, both teams gave their all and held their own for quite some time before the next goal was scored.
The fleet footed Delvon Clarke however, came into his own after missing at least one clear chance early in the game. In the final analysis, with the Villa United wilting under the pressure exerted by their opponents, the final score line was Stoney Grove Strikers six to Villa United’s three—in the high scoring contest.
For Stoney Grove, Delvon Clarke converted 3 goals, Dion Claxton 1; Tonito Willet 1 and Clester Evans 1.
The goal scorers for the Villa United were: Rene Taylor, Ruvidson Morton and Greg Forde.
Matches continue this weekend.
