Early morning shooting scares Irish Town residents

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE sounds of gunfire in the Irish Town area yesterday morning (Dec. 9) caused a number of seven o’clock workers to choose other routes to their place of employ and a few women who were preparing breakfast not to venture outside their homes.

Information reaching SKNVibes indicates that shortly before 6:00 a.m., a masked man, dressed in dark clothing, had entered a yard in Salt Pond Alley, Irish Town, Basseterre and fired a number of shots into the air. Fortunately, however, no one was reportedly injured.

According to one resident, “A man, dressed in dark clothes and had his face covered with a black mask, walked into my neighbour’s yard in Salt Pond Alley. He had a gun in his hand and it seemed as if he was looking for someone. Suddenly, he started licking shots and I immediately moved from my kitchen window and went into the bedroom because I ain’t into them shooting thing.

“The man fired about three shots, and after a couple minutes I decided to take a peek outside but the gunman had already left the area. Somebody had called the police and I noticed that one of them picked up something that looked like a shell.”

A male resident said he and two colleagues were walking along Fort Thomas Road on their way to work when they heard the report of gunfire. He told this media house that on hearing the first shot fired, they hurriedly retraced their steps and headed for the Bay Road to avoid encountering the gunman or gunmen.

SKNVibes later learned that the incident is under police investigation.
