BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TWO male Newtown residents were yesterday (Dec. 9) charged for alleged possession of a handgun, ammunition and a quantity of crack cocaine.

The two men are 33-year-old Lester ‘Eight Ball’ Tross of Pitcairn Street, Newtown and Kasim ‘Steel’ Peters (18) of the same address.

Police Press and Public Relations Officer (PRO), Inspector Vaughan Henderson said, “On Thursday 9th December 2010 at approximately 10:00 a.m., police officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit were conducting a routine patrol in the Newtown area when they arrested two Newtown males on suspicion of firearm and crack cocaine.”

Henderson said Tross and Peters were taken to the Basseterre Police Station and “police also took the quantity of crack cocaine and one .40mm PT Taurus Millennium PRO Semi Automatic pistol and 10 rounds of .40mm ammunition for further analysis”.

“Then at approximately 3:15 p.m. the police formally arrested and charged the two without a warrant for possession of crack cocaine, possession of crack cocaine with intent to supply and possession of firearm and ammunition,” he added.

The PRO said the police would be objecting to bail and Tross and Peters would be remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison until their trial date, should the court finds favour with their grounds of objection. He also said investigations into this matter are ongoing.

This recent find takes the total number of illegal firearms removed off the streets of the twin-island Federation for the year to 43.

Meanwhile, two men from Sandy Point are on bail after being charged for possession of cannabis.

According to Inspector Henderson, Vincent Warner Jr. (25) of The Alley, Sandy Point and Sean Buchanan (26) of Farms Housing Development, Sandy Point were arrested and charged “without a warrant for possession of cannabis” on Wednesday, December 8, 2010.

The PRO said the offence was allegedly committed at approximately 11:40 p.m. at the Frigate Bay Beach Strip on the said date the men were charged.

He added that they were bailed yesterday (Dec. 9) to the tune of EC$10 000 and investigations are ongoing.
