CG Rebels Escape PJ’s vice grip

Press Release

It was only on Thursday night last that the Basketball fans at the Church Ground hard court screamed in delight as the two major Secondary schools on the island went head to head in a fantastic display of Basketball. Many of the fans felt that there would not be another encounter in the league that would create such excitement. However, on Saturday night, that was proven to be wrong when the two unbeaten teams in the league so far, thrilled the sizeable crowd with some scintillating Basketball.

It seemed like only weeks ago when the entire fan base on Nevis were screaming their support for the CG Rebels as they pitted their skills against the eventual SKABA champions, Rams Hitters.  Now on the night, even as the Cotton Ground fans yelled their support for the local champs, the noise was equalled by the shouts of the fans supporting the PJ’s team.

The conflicting supporting sounds became almost deafening when with minutes remaining in the game, PJ’s tied up the scores with the multiple champions and then eased ahead with a slender lead.

The experienced CG Rebels did not panic however and a resounding three pointer from Kirt Herbert sent the CG fans wild and put them back on course.

A crucial miss by Vance Allen for the PJ’s created a turn over for the CG’s and resulted in another two and suddenly as the seconds ticked away, the heads of the PJ’s players were obviously sagging.  It did not help that star player Ev Webbe had already fouled out of the game for being overly aggressive.

In the last few seconds of the game, the CG Rebels managed a few more points to take a definitive lead.  The final score line: CG Rebels 71  PJ’s sixty-two.

For the CG Rebels Jennerson France scored 20 points; 2 rebs; 2 assts; Naldo Jeffers 13 points; 13 rebs; Donford Wilkinson sixteen points; 3 rebs; 1asst.

In the first game of the evening, hometown team, CG Massives squeezed out a close victory over a very competitive Craddock Road team, 57 to 53.

For CG Massives, Kirthney Esdaille scored 20 points; 9 rebs; 2 assts; Warren Bussue 7 points; 8 rebs; 1asst; Jason Williams 7 points; 2 rebs; 1asst.
