BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A new and exciting experience will take place in Basseterre on J’Ouvert morning, following the much anticipated traditional activity of jamming through the streets on Monday, December 27.
The J’Ouvert Beach Chill 2010, which is being organised and promoted by Garfield Alexander, Mikal Manners and Sherlon Roland of GMS Multi-Media, is described as the ultimate after J’Ouvert party that is expected to enhance Carnival celebrations by extending the J’Ouvert morning experience.
According to the organisers, “On the morning of the 27th of December, 2010, thousands of revellers as well as onlookers will flood the streets of Basseterre to enjoy and dance to the local music, sample the local cuisine and catch up with family and friends from home and overseas. In the past, the celebrations were terminated at 11:00 a.m. and revellers and onlookers were forced to return to their homes, or else find their own source of entertainment with which to fill the remainder of their day.
“…After the day breaks and the heat of the mid-morning climbs, there is a need to cool down the body temperature. Visualise the back of the old treasury building, (now the National Trust Museum) housing remnants of Carnivals past and a traditional liming spot transformed into a beach scene complete with lounge chairs, umbrellas, pools, showers, sprinklers, beach balls, foam pool, mud pit and more.”
The J’Ouvert Beach Chill will be a beach without sand and along with the foam, mud and 40 foot slides, a VIP section will be established.
“J’Ouvert is not just about getting drunk. Thousands of people lining the streets will now have another opportunity to enjoy themselves when the J’Ouvert is terminated at 11:00 a.m.,” said Alexander.
He also said the event would be streamed live on www.beachchill.tv so that persons who are overseas or unable to attend could view it online.
The online streaming will add more exposure for the performers of the event, and so far Nu Vybes Band, Masud Sadiki, Delison Roper (Food all over), Nicha B and Shakki have all been confirmed for the family-oriented event along with local modelling agencies.
“In the short space of time I’ve been here and attended J’Ouvert, I observed that people were still
lining the streets after the close off of J’Ouvert. So we thought it was a good idea to maximise on the crowd. Good for marketing in terms of sponsors and also in terms of developing the Carnival experience,” said Manners.
The organisers said, “JBC is the perfect place to continue the hype or ‘chillax’ in the shade while sipping on something cold. Food will also be available after revelling in the hot sun, and a DJ strategically placed on a high platform overlooking the crowd would be rocking attendees with the local carnival hits and also hits from the past.”
Three of the top J’Ouvert Troupes, Mudsunami, Red Devils and Phunn Vybes, have confirmed that the J’Ouvert Beach Chill would be their official after party.
So far LIME, TDC, Island Auto Supply, CARIB Breweries, SKNVibes, Express Events, Watch No Face, New Generation Engineering, Horsfords, G-Squared Arts and C&C have agreed to sponsor the event, while Red Devils, Phun-Vibes, Mudsunami, Party Central, National Museum, S Model Management Mavado Model Agency, Petal Swim Wear, Ryddim Magazine, Urban
Development Unit and NuVybes International have partnered in the event.
Apart from the J’Ouvert troupes, the organisers are targeting the revellers and spectators with the hopes of making it an annual event.
