BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A press conference was held at ZIZ Studios today (Dec. 14) by the National Carnival Committee for the 2010 Female Calypso Bacchanal and Best of the Rest contenders to select numbers for their order of appearance.
The show will take place at the Sugar Mill on Friday (Dec.17), following the official opening of the 2010 National Carnival, dubbed Sugar Mas.
Appearances for the Female Calypso Bacchanal will begin with Foxy, who will be followed by Sha Angel, Queen Angie, Defending Monarch Singing Jackie, Singing Jennifer, Dolly, Kibie, Queen Anastasia, Singing Pearlene, Sunshine, and Miss Independence, who also holds the reigning Junior Calypso title.
Meanwhile, eight calypsonians will be in the run for the Best of the Rest title and they will appear in the following order: De Provoker, Lala, Abba Lively, Lord Felix, Unexpected, Hot Rod, Lil Willy and Neglector. ‘Pampalam’ singer Rockafella will act as the alternative.
The conference was headed by Sugar Mas Chairman Clement ‘Monarch’ O’Garro, who said the committee has been working extremely hard to put this event together.
Also present was MacClure Taylor of the Best of the Rest Sub-Committee.
Taylor said this competition is geared towards the calypsonians who brought life to the calypso tents but who were unable to make it beyond that point.
“In this competition, we have the more witty calypsonians who would make people laugh. So it would definitely be a great show,” he added.
O’Garro said the show would feature former Trinidad Calypso Monarch Singing Sandra and admission would be free, as a form of giving something back to carnival fans.
The calypsonians who were present at the press conference encouraged the public to come out and witness them display some spectacular performances, as it would be a show to remember.
