Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 14, 2010 (SKNIS): Last week’s staging of In the Spirit of Christmas was described as quite successful judging from audience response and participation.

Coordinated by the Department of Culture, this year’s In the Spirit of Christmas took place at the Circus as customary and ran from December 06 to10.  Director of Culture Creighton Pencheon attested to the event’s success, while noting that In the Spirit of Christmas would not have been possible without the assistance of volunteers.  One such person who gave of her time and talent was Tourism Authority Marketing Associate Kira Purcell.  She expressed to the St. Kitts and Nevis Information Service that the five-night event was excellent.

“It was particularly nice to see visitors from Ballahoo Restaurant come done on Monday and state that they enjoyed the event,” The Marketing Associate emphasized.  “It was even more heartwarming when Ballahoo patrons returned on the Thursday night expressing the same delight.”

Mrs. Purcell revealed that the Prisons performed excellent renditions, so much so, that the audience asked for more, however due to curfew constraints they were not able to return to the stage.  Another pleasant surprise for the volunteer was that despite last Wednesday’s downpour and electricity outage, there was still a sizable audience.
She also noted that the children were very enthusiastic about their presents from Santa Clause and it was very satisfying to see their faces light up.

When asked if she would volunteer again, her response was “most definitely.”  “Most often persons would look forward to the Carnival-related activities, rather than to the true meaning of Christmas,” Mrs. Purcell gushed.  “For me, it is a matter of celebrating Christ’s birth and giving and sharing, that is why it was particularly important for us to have a sermonette each night.”
