BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – CHRISTMAS is a time for rejoicing and sharing, and evidence of this lies in the various activities that individuals, groups and the business community in St. Kitts and Nevis are engaged in and will be promoting as the season rapidly approaches.

One such activity took place earlier today (Dec. 15) when the Royal Bank of Trinidad and Tobago (RBTT) donated a four-burner electric stove to the St. Christopher Children’s Home.

The stove was handed over to the Home’s Administrator Eartha Williams by RBTT’s Country Manager Corliss Charles-Sutton, who was accompanied by a number of the bank’s senior employees.

Pointing out that such initiatives to benefit communities form part of her company’s image, Charles-Sutton said giving back should be viewed as RBTT’s middle name.
“We love to give back and that is why we continue to give back to the community, and therefore today is no different,” she said.

The Country Manager said her bank is very excited to be partnering with the St. Christopher Children’s Home, as they seek to reach out in a meaningful way. She disclosed that following a past discussion, it was decided that the stove would be the most appropriate donation at this time.

“We immediately sought to acquire an electric four-burner stove, and I must express our sincere thanks and appreciation to Iston Williams at TDC, who readily offered us a very good price for the stove that we are presenting today,” she said.

In accepting the donation, the newly-appointed Administrator said the Children’s Home is very pleased with the donation and thanked RBTT for coming forward at this time to offer such assistance.

“I would like to express on behalf of the St. Christopher Children’s Home, we would like to register our appreciation and gratitude to RBTT and would therefore like to assure you that we would put it to very good use, and, more importantly, it is very timely at this time of Christmas,” she said.

The Country Manger, backed by her employees, sang a Christmas carol for the children who were present at the time of the presentation. The Home currently houses 10 children - four girls and six boys.

Giving an insight into the Children’s Home, Williams said the oldest child there is an 18 years old and a four-year-old is the youngest. She noted that the average number of residents is five, but it was recently doubled after a mother had encountered some challenges.

“Her situation is not one that saw the court issuing an order; it’s just a temporary situation. The five children will be here temporary,” Williams said.

The five children include a girl and the oldest is 12.

The St. Christopher Children’s Home had celebrated its 75th anniversary this year. It was established in September 1935.
