Champions CG Rebels ward off stiff challenge

    The semi final matches in the Malcolm Guishard Basketball league commenced at the Grell Hull-Stevens Netball Complex last evening.

     


    Match one was an unexpected thriller as Ghetto Starz came up against the highly touted PJ’s.

     


    PJ’s was off to a decisive lead in the first quarter but the scores from the remaining three quarters, tell the story of the exciting moments of Basketball enjoyed by the small crowd on hand.

     


    The scores per quarter were:

     


    1st quarter: PJ’s 20 Ghetto Starz 5
    2nd quarter: Ghetto Starz 12 PJ’s six
    3ed quarter: Ghetto Starz Fourteen PJ’s 11
    Final quarter: Ghetto Starz Fourteen to PJ’s 13

     


    Final score: PJ’s Fifty Ghetto Starz forty-five.

     


    For PJ’s Everson Webbe starred with a game high 27 points; 9 rebs; Vance Allen 10 points; 3 rebs; 5 assts; Shevon Browne six points; 8 rebs; 2assts.
    For the Ghetto Starz team, Kelvin Bramble scored 13 points; six rebs; Trevor Arthurton 10 points; 9 rebs and Matthew Harding 8 points; 13 rebs; 2 assts.

     


    In match two, champions CG Rebels came up against CG Massives.  Both teams missed the rim constantly in the first number of exchanges then CG Massives converted and thereafter proceeded to give the multiple champion team, ‘a run for their money’. At the end of the first quarter’s whistle, the CG Massives cheered on by a supportive crowd, held a handsome lead.

     


    However, the experienced SKABA runners up team dug deep and led by Kurt Herbert served to demonstrate why they are the current champions. They bounced back to dominate the second and third quarters and even though CG Massives regained the ascendancy in the final quarter, the experienced CG Rebels held on to an exciting victory in the end.

     


    The final score: CG Rebels Sixty-two CG Massives 52

     


    For the CG Rebels, Kurt Herbert converted 22 points; four rebs; 3 assts; Jennerson France 13 points; six assts; Royden Browne 8 points; 7 rebs; 2 assts.

     


    For the CG Massives, Kirthney Esdaille starred with 18 points; 13 rebs; Ewing Jones 11 points; 3 rebs; Dwayne Warner 8 points; 2 rebs; 1ast

     


    1st quarter: CG Massives 15 CG Rebels 9
    2nd quarter: CG Rebels 18 CG Massives 9
    Third quarter: CG Rebels 18 CG Massives 9
    Final quarter: CG Massives 19 CG Rebels 17

     


    Matches continue at the Grell Hull Stevens Netball Complex on Saturday 18th December at six thirty pm.

     


    Ghetto Starz will play PJ’s and CG Rebels will play CG Massives right after.
