CG Rebels once again demonstrated why they are multiple times champions of Basketball on Nevis when they defeated a determined CG Massives team, sixty-two to forty-nine. The second in the best of three semi final encounters was played at the Grell-Hull Stevens Netball Complex on the evening of Saturday 18th December and helped them to qualify for the big finals in the Malcolm Guishard Basketball league.
For the CG Rebels, Donford Wilkinson starred with twenty-six points; 1 reb; 2 assts; Royden Browne 18 pts; 5 rebs; Kurt Herbert 8 pts; 12 rebs; 5 assts;.
For the CG Massives, Jason Williams scored sixteen pts; 2 rebs; Kirthney Esdaille 5 pts; 13 rebs; Dwayne Warner 8 pts; 2 rebs.
In match two PJ’s secured the second slot in the best of three finals when they swamped Ghetto Starz 78 to 52.
For the PJ’s Everson Webbe led the way with 35 pts; 13 rebs; four assts; Carvin Smith 12 pts; six rebs; 5 assts; Vance Allen fourteen pts; 1asst; Wayne Jeffers 11 rebs.
For the Ghetto Starz, Trevor Arthurton scored 21 pts; four rebs; 3 assts; Kelvin Bramble 13 pts; 11 rebs; Dylan Weekes 10 pts; 9 rebs.
With the finalists already determined, a friendly encounter was played on Sunday night between the two main Secondary schools on the island. The script was written almost exactly the way it was written when the two teams met in their regular league match.
What a thriller it was! CSS edged out GSS forty to thirty-eight.
For CSS Cheslyn Hutton led the way with fourteen points; 12 rebs; four assts; Mervin Hercules 12 points; 10 rebs; Allista Usher 10 points; 7 rebs; 2 assts.
For the GSS team, Norris Williams scored 18 points; 11 rebs; C. Paul 11 points; 8 rebs; S. Hanley six points; 5 rebs.
The best of three finals will commence at the Grell Hull Stevens Netball Complex on Wednesday 22nd December when PJ’s takes on CG Rebels in what is expected to be an exciting contest. Prior to that, at six -thirty pm CG Massives will face off with Ghetto Sytarz s in order to determine fourth and fifth spots.
