    The Liamuiga Youth Legacy Awards Association an Honour Society that recognizes young people who have been exemplary citizens of St. Kitts is soliciting applications and nominations from outstanding, well-rounded young individuals who are agents of change and who have contributed to the development of their respective communities and to St. Kitts. 

    Applicants must be between the ages of sixteen (16) and thirty-five (35) and must have devoted his or herself to a legacy of Scholarship, Leadership and Service.
     
    Since its inception in 2004, LYLAA has honoured 15 exemplary young persons. In 2004, Mrs. Sharalee Benjamin-Kelly, Ms. Shamara Morton, Ms. Janelle Lewis, Mr. Fadil Imo, Mr. Terrance Martin and Mr. Steve Whittaker were recognized. 

    Mr. Geoffrey Hanley, the Director of Youth was given the 2004 Legacy Award. In 2005, Ms. Deidre Daniel, Ms. Claricia Langley, Ms. Jacqueline Bryan, Mr. Clive Saunders, Mr. Stachio Williams and Mr. Jenson Morton were recognized. Mr. Nigel Browne of Youth Impact Ministries and Mrs. Winnielle Guilbert of Winnielle Model Management were given the 2005 Legacy Award.
     
    On the CUOPM website, Prime Minister Douglas said that initiatives such as LLYAA will be able hold the young people up, not only to their peers, but to the country on a whole and thus give them the support and motivation that is required to make them worthwhile citizens and leaders. Prime Minister Douglas also gave his own personal commitment and that of his Government to the Association that has been responsible for recognizing young people in the Federation.
     
    Mr. Terrance Martin a 2004 LYLAA Awardee who is currently pursuing studies at Midwestern State University in Texas said, "Sometimes as a young person you get the feeling that you are seldom listened to by most elders of society, however, LYLAA provides an avenue for recognition that is strictly unbiased and non partisan. As one of the first recipients, it was nothing short of an honour to be selected for this prestigious award. I must commend the organizers and visionary of LYLAA as they continue to give young people the recognition they deserve."
     
    ~~Adz:Left~~Interested persons are asked to submit a written autobiography highlighting academic/scholarly achievements, leadership roles, societal contributions and future plans or complete an application form from the Department of Youth or the Charles Halbert Library. Interested persons are also asked to submit a brief article on an issue affecting society and state how he or she intends to alleviate this problem. Submissions are due on Monday 14th August 2006.
