Auzonville, Tunapuna December 21, 2010 - CHÉ Magazine is pleased to announce the launch of its interactive new website www.chemagazine.com which took place at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Student Activity Centre on Friday December 17, 2010.
The magazine, which focuses on conflicts resulting from our basic differences as men and women, first launched its inaugural issue on September 4, 2009. On Friday, the publication unveiled its website which features content from the upcoming issue #5 themed “Her-story” and profiles the stories of positive female role models.
Currently, it profiles former Ms. Universe Wendy Fitzwilliam, who is currently the Vice President of Investment Promotions at Evolving Technologies (eTeck) and recently launched her book ‘Letters to Ailan’. In her interview, the corporate mogul talks about her experience as Ms. Universe and her subsequent take on current beauty standards.
Additionally, CHÉ went one on one with the host of ‘The Basia Show’ and Publisher of ‘Basia Magazine’, Mrs. Alicia John-Powell, who spoke candidly on her experience building the Basia empire, her personal battle with breast cancer and her relationship with former cricketer Ricardo Powell.
“I think that women’s stories often go unheard and it’s not always that we’re silenced but that we’re so used to hearing the adage that ‘little girls should be seen and not heard’ that we grow to believe that we have to say isn’t important.
“However, it is so important for women to know that there are other women out there who go through the same struggles that they do, but have found a way to rise above whatever the circumstance. So this issue is dedicated to our women, because as the mothers and matriarchs of our societies, their stories deserve to be heard,” said Ms. Claudia Liburd, Editor-in-Chief at CHÉ Magazine.
To commemorate the launch of the website, free drinks, school supplies, T-shirts and dog tags were given to all who attended the event.
The launch was sponsored by Coca Cola Caribbean Bottlers and the Got it? Get It! HIV/AIDS Awareness Campaign.
