The Combined schools Football team which is particpating in the local Football league hosted by the Nevis Amateur Football Association, yesterday received a set of brand new uniforms.
The presentation was made yesterday at the ET Willet Park when the Hon Mark Brantley presented the Coach, Leroy 'Jun -Jun' Sweeney and Captain of the team, Aljae Newton, with the uniforms.
The uniforms consist of shorts, jerseys and socks for all of the players on the team.
The brief ceremony was chaired by Oscar 'Astro' Browne who indicated that he learnt from Coach Sweeney that the school team was in dire need of uniforms and he immediately contacted the Hon Mark Brantley who asked him to put everything in place and he would take care of the bill.
Vice President of the Football Association, Raymond 'Raybo' Smith thanked Mr. Brantley and indicated that he would like to see more individuals and corporate citizens coming forward to provide similar assistance to the young people on the island.
The Hon Mark Brantley in his brief address indicated that despite the harsh economic times he could not say 'no' when he had the opportunity to assist the young people within his constituency and beyond. He stated that although he knew very little about Football, he knew about helping persons in need and pledged that once he has the wherewithal, he would continue to assist for as long as possible.
Coach Sweeney thanked Mr. Brantley and noted that no longer would he have to beg the Nevis Football Association for assistance in borrowing jerseys etc and promised that hsi team with the spanking new uniforms would be in the top two teams this year.
