Customs PRO

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, 21 DECEMBER 2010 (Customs PRO) - The St. Kitts and Nevis Customs and Excise Department has modified the Customs Procedure Codes which have been implemented in both islands of the federation.

In an advisory and corresponding Administrative Notes, the Customs Department outlined to Customs Brokers and the nation in general the rationale for changes made to the procedure codes and itemized the assigned codes for the importation of specified goods by designated institutions, organizations and establishments.

The implementation of the Value Added Tax and the repeal of the Consumption Tax prompted the Department to remove some codes, add new codes, and modify or relocate other codes.

Codes have been assigned to Government Departments, Statutory Bodies, Embassies Diplomatic Missions, International Organizations and their Personnel, and Factories Classified as Enclave.

Other classifications include, but are not limited to, codes for Goods Subject to CARICOM Area Origin treatment, Goods Entered by Musicians, Goods Entered for use by Churches, Computers, Parts and Accessories and Cars for Returning Nationals.

The Customs and Excise Department is confident that these modifications will assist all importers in the wake of tax reforms in the Federation. These changes are also expected to assist in the collection and classification of statistical data the department finds important for planning and analysis.
