    Antonio Liburd, Financial Comptroller of the Culturama Committee
    BASSETERRE
    , St. Kitts and Nevis:  "Mas, Music, Lyrics, its Culturama 2006." That is the theme for this year's Culturama that was submitted by a 2A2 student from the Gingerland High School.
     
    Vikelia Hicks received a plaque and two complimentary tickets to all of the Culturama 2006 activities. The theme was chosen from 81 entries that had to be entered no later than February 24th 2006.
     
    Celebrated over the Emancipation Day weekend in Nevis, Culturama is said to be the place to have fun in the sun. At this time in the year the people are stimulated to welcome a unique life-style that is their own.
     
    The first Culturama was held in 1974 and year after year hundreds of Nevisians from abroad and visitors revisit for the occasion.
     
    Antonio Liburd, Financial Comptroller of the Culturama Committee said, "We had a few set backs because of the election, but plans are at an advanced stage right now."
     
    He continued that the committee is trying to create awareness among the people that Culturama is happening this year.
     
    Last weekend was the launching of contestants for the Miss Culture and Mr. Kool Shows.  The 2006 Miss Culture Queen Pageant contestants were formally introduced to the general public.
     
    The names in no direct order are Sidama Jones of Nevis, Juel Browne of Nevis, Isis Francis of St. Kitts, Cherisse Sutton of St. Kitts and Cari Nicholas of Nevis.
     
    Also the five Mr. Kool contestants are Jose Gumbs of Nevis, Leon Julius of Nevis, Shefton Daniel of Nevis, Carlisle James of Nevis and Stenneth Stevens of St. Kitts.
     
    ~~Adz:Right~~For this year, a new event has been added to the Culturama calendar, which is the Miss Leeward Island Cultural Queen Show. The seven contestants representing different countries are Deonne Semple of Montserrat, Nigel George of Dominica.
     
    Suyene Robins of St. Eustatius, Fabiana Richardson of St. Martin, Kayedelle Hodge of Anguilla, Coretta Heyliger of Saba and Jamilla Parris of Nevis who is the reigning Miss Culture Queen.
     
    Liburd said that in terms of the Calypso show, "We won't be doing eliminations due to the time left on our hands, every one would go to the semifinals on the night of the show."
     
    On Saturday July 22, the official launch and the opening of the Culturama Village will take place with music by Byron Lee and his Dragoneers.
     
    The Grandmasters Band of St. Kitts will also provide music along with other special guest artists.
     
    Over the next two weeks things are bound to be hyping up for all the events. Calypso tents, streets jams, fashion shows, beach and house parties, swim suit contest, nightly dances, boat rides, dramatic presentations and more.
