Javier Liburd, the talented Nevisian opening batsman and vice captain of the successful Leeward islands team which cupped a series victory in the last one day tournament hosted by the WICB, will not feature in the Leeward Islands T 20 squad for the tournament which commences on January 10th.
This was revealed over the weekend when the young cricketer received a response to his letter of request for time off from his employer that he would not be released for the tournament.
Liburd who is currently employed by the prestigious Four Seasons Resort which recently celebrated its grand reopening after a two year closure, is employed in the Sports Department and is one of the persons who is responsible for the busy Tennis program offered by the Resort.
According to information received, It was noted by the Resort that it was a very busy time for the Hotel and the Tennis program at this time has attracted quite a number of guests.
It was also noted that future request for time off for cricket would be given due consideration.
It must be noted that Liburd is still on a three month probation and it is widely believed that sportsmen and women getting time off for National duty is indeed a privilege—not a right.
The other members of the LI squad are already in Antigua participating in a training camp prior to the final selection of the team.
